MOUNTAIN EMPIRE ANTIQUE TRACTOR & SMALL ENGINE CLUB OFFICIAL GARDEN TRACTOR PULLING RULES FOR 2008-2011

The purpose of these rules is to make every effort to have a safe and enjoyable pull.  There will be no alcoholic beverages allowed at any pull.  Unsportsmanlike conduct such as arguing, fighting, etc. will not be permitted.  Any breach of these conditions is grounds for disqualification by track officials.  THE DECISIONS OF THE TRACK OFFICIALS ARE FINAL.

ALL CHANGES PASSED IN DECEMBER ARE HIGHLIGHTED IN GRAY.

1.  All drivers must sign a release form at every pull when the tractors are registered.

2.  Homemade tractors may be pulled if they conform to all other rules.

3.  Each garden tractor may be pulled only once in each class.  The first puller in each class will set the sled.  If a tractor stalls or has mechanical failure before sled is pulled 50 feet the operator may re-pull once or accept the first distance as official.  The operator may elect to drop to last in weight class to re-pull.  the longer of the two pulls will be the official distance.

4.  Operator must remain seated during pull and maintain control of the tractor at all times.  There will be no sitting up on the back of the seat.  A reasonable amount of leaning will be allowed.

5.  Only driver will be allowed on tractor at any time.  Drivers will not use excessive speed at any time during an event.  Tractors will not be left unattended with engine running.  NO JOYRIDING!

6.  Drawbar height can be no higher than 13" from the ground on any class.  All tractors must use a clevis or loop drawbar with a minimum of 1 1/2" loophole.  No dual wheels or chains allowed.  The hitch-point and kill switch must be safely accessible and sled chain cannot touch any part of the pulling tractor including wheelie bars and weights.

7.  All tractors are required to have wheelie bars strong enough to support the weight of both the tractor and driver in their heaviest weight class pulled.  Wheelie bars are to be a minimum of 5" back from the furthest vertical line off the rear tires and a maximum of 5" off the ground.  All tractors must have a hood and working brakes.  Fenders will be mandatory on all modified and super modified tractors.  They will be optional on stock and stock unlimited.

8.  When a tractor is hooked to the sled the puller will tighten the chain before the pull starts.  the puller will not start the pull until given the go-ahead by the sled operator and flagman.  The puller will not jerk-start the sled.  If this occurs the pull will be stopped and a second pull made.  If it occurs again, the puller will be disqualified.  when the driver pulls up to hook to the sled they must put the tractor in neutral, take their foot off the clutch and put their hands in the air to indicate to the dled operator and hook-man that they are ready to be hooked to the sled.  The tractor will not be hooked or unhooked until this is done.

9.  Tire size for Junior and Stock Single Cylinder and Stock Twin Cylinder classes will be a maximum of 26 x 12 x 12.  Any tread style is allowed.

10.  Any equipment or condition deemed unsafe by the track officials must be corrected before you will be allowed to compete.

11.  Hang-on weights or suitcase weights will be allowed but must be secured.  Weight boxes will be allowed in the Stock Altered, Stock Unlimited, Modified and Super Modified classes.  Wheel weights are allowed but must be secured so that nothing extends past the wheel weights than can cause injury.

OFFICIAL ANTIQUE TRACTOR PULLING RULES FOR 2008 - 2011

ALL CHANGES THAT WERE PASSED AT THE DECEMBER MEETING ARE HIGHLIGHTED IN GRAY.

The purpose of these rules is to make every effort to have a safe and enjoyable pull.  There will be no alcoholic beverages allowed.  No unsportsmanlike conduct such as arguing, fighting, etc., will be permitted.  Any breach of these conditions is grounds for disqualification by track officials.  THE DECISIONS OF THE TRACK OFFICIALS ARE FINAL.

THE FIRST PULLER IN EACH CLASS WILL SET THE SLED.  HE OR SHE MAY ACCEPT THE DISTANCE PULLED OR ELECT TO RE-PULL AT THE END OF THE CLASS.  IF THEY DO ELECT TO RE-PULL, THE SECOND PULL WILL BE THE OFFICIAL DISTANCE.

1.  Tractors manufactured up to and including 1959 models will be allowed to pull.  All tractors must remain stock.  A stock tractor is defined as any tractor tested by the Nebraska Tractor Test Board.  Not qualifying as stock is any tractor with an engine installed with after market kits, such as Ford with 6 cylinder or 8 cylinder engines.  This also includes turbos, blowers, or stroker kits.  Engine rpm's are not to exceed 10% above the high idle as listed by the Nebraska Tractor Test Board.  If the track officials deem that your tractor is not stock then you may be asked to pull out of competition.

2.  Tires may be increased 2 sizes from the basic tire size as indicated by the tractor manufacturer.  Old tire sizes may be converted into new sizes.  (Example:  12-38 is the same size as a 13.6-38.)  No cut tires (cleats) or sidewalls, radials or rice or cane tires will be permitted.

3.  When the 1st horn sounds you will slow down immediately.  When the 2nd horn sounds your pull will be measured at that point, but you may continue to pull until the sled stops your forward progress .

4.  Drawbars may be manufactured but must be strong enough to pull from and must meet all safety requirements.  All drawbars must be rigid from the center of rear axle to hook point.  Drawbar height cannot be more than 20" from the ground.  Center of draw pinhole cannot be closer than 18" to the center of the rear axle.  The use of chains or turnbuckles will be permitted if they are mounted in their original positions and no higher than 2" above top of axle housing.  The highest hitch point, including the drawbar, clevis or loop, cannot exceed 20".  Tractors must use their own twisted clevis or a loop drawbar with a minimum of 2.5" loophole and with a minimum thickness of 1/2" and a maximum thickness of 3/4" for sled hookup.

5.  Any equipment that is considered stock on any particular tractor must remain on that tractor when being pulled.  No parts that are deemed essential to the operation or safety of the tractor shall be removed in order to lose weight.

6.  Add on weights shall be of the original type and mounted in their proper places.  Hang-on or factory nose weights will be permitted.  Any cast antique front weights may be used on a tractor.  The weights designed for the front must be mounted on the front and weights designed for the frame must be mounted on the frame.  A provision will be made for tractors not factory equipped with front weights.  A bracket may be constructed to attach weights to the front of the tractor and it will not extend any further forward than 8" from the farthest front point of the tractor.  All add-on weight brackets will be inspected and approved by the pull director.  All weights must be secure while pulling.  If you lose any weights or the weight bracket breaks during the pull you will be disqualified.

7.  No dual wheels.  All tractors must have working brakes and may be inspected during the pull.

8.  The following weight classes will be used.  Weight includes tractor and driver and a 1% tolerance will be allowed for all classes.

2000 lbs.

2500 lbs.

3000 lbs.

10,000 lbs.

11,000 lbs.

9.  All track vehicles will pull at the end of the weight class they are registered in.  Track vehicles will be weighed the first time they are brought to a pull and then will be exempt for the rest of the pulling season.  They will not be required to pull across the scales right before pulling.

10.  When the driver pulls up to hook to the sled they must put the tractor in neutral, take their foot off the clutch and put their hands in the air to indicate to the sled operator that they are ready to be hooked to the sled.  The tractor will not be hooked or unhooked until this is done.  If this is not done, the first time you will be given a warning and the second time you will be disqualified.  When the tractor is hooked to the sled the puller will tighten the chain before the pull starts.  The puller will not start the pull until given the go-ahead by the sled operator.  The puller will not jerk-start the sled.  If this occurs the pull will be stopped and a second pull made.  If it happens again the puller will be disqualified.

11.  A tractor may be pulled only once in a class.

12.  If a tractor stalls or has mechanical failure before the sled is pulled 50 feet the operator will have the options of re-pulling or accepting the distance as an official pull.  The tractor may be re-pulled only once and the longer of the two pulls will be accepted as the official distance.  The operator may elect to re-pull last in the weight class being pulled.

13.  When a tractor goes out of bounds the pull will be stopped and measured at that point.  When either the front or rear tire of the tractor touches the chalk line the tractor will be ruled out of bounds.

14.  Tractors originally equipped with a torque amplifier or select-o-speed transmission may be shifted during a pull.  However, if the forward motion of the sled stops during the shift the pull will be stopped and measured at that point.  The track officials will decide if the sled has stopped.  Manual transmissions will not be shifted during a pull.

15.  Excessive raising of the front end of a tractor will not be permitted.  Excessive in this case means when the bottom of the front tires raise above the center of the rear axle.  If the track official judges that your tractor has raised above the allowable distance you will be disqualified.  when the track official or sled operator blows the whistle, the pull is stopped.  The use of a safety bar or wheelie bar is recommended but not required.

16.  Operator must remain seated in an upright and safe position during the pull and maintain control of the tractor at all times.

17.  Only one person will be allowed on a tractor at any time.  Tractors will not be left unattended with the engine running.  NO JOYRIDING!  Tractors will not use excessive speed when leaving pulling area.

18.  No riding toys of any kind will be allowed at any club-sponsored event.  This includes skateboards, roller skates, bicycles, motorbikes, ATV's or any other vehicle which may pose a hazard to the children operating them or to the tractor operators.  This is for the safety of our children, the spectators and the tractor operators.

19.  Any participant under age 18 must have a parent or guardian's written consent on the release forms to participate in the pull.  Anyone 12 years or younger must be supervised and accompanied by an adult at all times while operating a tractor.  Anyone under age 16 must pass a driving test to compete.  A driving permit will be issued for the current pulling season only.  A driving test must be passed on every tractor driven by anyone under age 16.  All tractor operators, sled operators, track workers and pull personnel must sign a release from at each pull before they are allowed to participate.
